Convert graph to embedded: Programmatic version?

Does anybody know of a way to perform programatically the "Convert Graph to Embedded" function of the contextual menu in a layout? It is convenient for me to keep a collection of graphs as embedded subwindows in a layout, so that I can perform operations on multiple graphs at once, but it is not convenient that I have to right click them individually to do "Convert Graph to Embedded" or "Convert to Graph and Object."

There is no way to do this programmatically as far as I know.

I think we conceived of this as something you would do infrequently.
