ESRI Shapefiles

Does anyone have a procedure for importing ESRI shapefiles (*.sph) and working with shapefiles?
I'm not aware of any way to read shapefiles into Igor. We are looking into it but it is a big project that will not bear fruit anytime soon.

I think you will have to find a way to get the shapefile data into some kind of plain text format.
