Long menu mouse interactions

This occurs on many occasions;
when the popup menu is long, or the popup menu button is positioned too close to the bottom of the display, a left mouse click will automatically select a random item and the drop menu disappears, rather than keeping the drop down menu in place.
for example in the igor tex demo:
The three font button for choosing a font for the next operation, the left mouse click can not make a quiet correct choice.
Right-clicking， however， keeps the menu item in place and gives me time to select it.
A similar question occurs with the "special" option in "Add annotation", sonmetimes I have to change the "Add annotation " Window to the top of the display.
Yes, I think this is some specific quirk of the UI interface (qt) on windows. I remember hunting for a reproducible cause for a while, but with no results. You can circumvent this by holding the left mouse button until you are above the menu item you want to select. If you hold the button down no selection will take place.
