check_wave?

I used "check_wave" function in my program a few years ago. It clears up the existing waves and allow repeated running of the program on the same data file. I am writing a new program and could not find "check_wave" in the Igor Manual. Is it replaced by something else?

check_wave isn't a built-in Igor function or command.

It must have been a user-defined function someone wrote for you, and perhaps put into a file inside one of your Igor Procedures folders.
