Simplified Chinese translation of Igor Pro--advice requested
I am working with an Igor User to develop an AI assisted translation of Igor Pro into Simplified Chinese.
I'd like the opinion of anyone who has one on the following question. What translation would you use for the Igor term "trace", as in a "trace on a graph", "Modify Trace Appearance" dialog, etc.? The user I am working with suggested the following possibilities:
- 迹 "used for translating trace in linear algebra and sort of makes sense in Chinese language...I suggested we avoid translation into a single Chinese character, as most Chinese characters carry multiple meanings and it is highly dependent on the context. A single Chinese character can be very ambiguous and misleading"
- 轨迹 "can mean either trajectory in physics or locus in math. I think most Chinese people will lean towards trajectory by default because locus is an advanced math concept."
- 图迹 "a direct translation of graph/image trace. This word does not exist in Chinese language as is, but in my own opinion it actually represents the meaning of "trace" in Igor Pro pretty well."
If you have any comments on these possibilities, or would like to suggest your own, please do so here.
Also, if you are interested in evaluating the AI assisted translation after we finish, please either post here or contact me directly at support@wavemetrics.com.
