Filled color markers with black error bars?

Is there a way to have a graph marker be filled with a color like red, green, or blue, and then have the error bars for that marker be black or some other color? Whenever I change the color of a marker, the error bars inherit the same color with no apparent way to prevent or change this.
Indeed, the error bars are the same color as the marker.

But you can add a second trace with the same data to the graph, and put the error bars on that second trace. You can hide the second trace by using Lines Between Points mode, and setting the line size to zero. That doesn't hide the error bars, just the trace line.

Hi,

I am sorry for digging up this old thread, but is there any other solution by this time? I mean, all lines black with just another fill color for markers is what you see overwhelmingly in scientific literature and it looks much more elegant this way.
The reason I am asking is that the method described by johnweeks does not work for category plots, because the additional wave is inserted after whatever waves already on the plot if you add it to the same axis.
Right now, I am adding the additional wave to a caclulated second horizontal axes, hide the axis and labels, set the axis range and then x-offset the marker so that it overlays with the respective marker.
It sure works, but it is also kind of a hassle and not very elegant at all.

When you add the second trace to a category plot, it does indeed occupy an adjacent space in the category. The solution to that is to change the Grouping mode of the *first* trace to Keep with Next.

You do that in the Modify Trace Appearance dialog in the Grouping menu; with the first trace selected in the list, select Keep with Next in the Grouping menu.

I agree that it would be better to add a way to control the color of error bars.
